Hi guys!
Well. I know that this might be a "wrong" thing to post here, but instead of asking any nerd-forum, I'd like to ask my peers ![]() Many of you might be or have been in my situation, and may possible have a solution. Problem: I have private stuff that I'd like to store somewhere. I'm talking pics and vids that should not be seen by anyone. (girlfriends and friends). I know that some of you would post these things, but I simply cannot do that. BUT!! : I really want to keep it for myself. It's become "trophies" for me ![]() Well.. Up to now, I have been using my storage at Hotmail, but I have recently got the feeling that it might not be THAT safe. Am I wrong?? Is there any kind of FREE storage possibilities out there? I do not dare keep this stuff on any of my hard drives, cause.. well ALL HELL would be loose if someone were to find it. I do have an FTP-server that I could use, but then I'd really like to be able to password-protect my files. And also, I really don't know for how long I have my FTP.. Have anyone found themselves in my situation?? If so: What did you do? All help appretiated! *Basse* |

the best way is to make them hidden files. click the box in your computer setup to keep hidden and system files hidden. when you want to see them, simply show hidden files. when done doing what you do, hide them again.
second best is put them in a zip or rar with a password. then put that rar or zip inside another rar or zip with password so when someone clicks it they see the next rar, not the file names. give the rar or zip an unobvious name like java or something and put it in a folder in one of your system program files. third best is that they have programs that do this if you want another installed program and the problems with losing the files when things happen. TrueCrypt is one of the safest ways to store things on your HDD. Not that a HDD is a reliable place to store things in the first place. (Keep a backup on Optical). TrueCrypt also works with USB keys.
Don't store private stuff in the cloud (ie Hotmail, Dropbox etc) unless it is encrypted (eg:ZIP/RAR), because if your account gets hacked, then you will loose control of your stuff, or worse, loose your stuff altogether. If you use WinZip / RAR then use a long password, eg 8 or more characters of a good mix. I have pics/vids of ex's and I don't bother to encrypt it. I have a password protected PC so my wife can't get onto my login. If you share a PC, then make sure you have separate logins. |
