As with my previous post, Gypsy again post- or mid-ride (is the PFA behind her short a caryatid?); then some I don't recall seeing, from Vancouver '09: if I'm right and they're new here, it might be because they weren't tagged the way I normally search at flickr, which in turn might be because the snapper doesn't seem to have been in search of WNBR, to judge by his photostream. He was apparently out to capture a kite-flying event on or near English Bay, when, walking along below the bike path, his attention diverted somehow, he turned around in time to squeeze off a few quick shots - serendipity strikes again!

Though, sad to say, officialdom intervened at the Newcastle (Oz) WNBR,

"March 12 at 5:15pm - World Naked Bike Ride in Newcastle broken up by Police - Sat 12 Mar 2011 - 8.9 km into a 12.6 km bike ride to protest for peace, sustainability and
cyclists rights, Police broke up the 7th annual World Naked Bike Ride in
Newcastle, NSW Australia. The group of about 15 bike riders, some clothed and and others naked and
decorated in body paint promoting their protest message, rode along the
Honeysuckle harborside cycleway, down Hunter St (the main street of the city),
and through the busy restaurant and cafe precinct of Darby St. The ride was
cheered and applauded by members of the public. Citing an alleged complaint from the public, the Police stopped the ride in Bar Beach. A couple participating in the ride were stopped and questioned by Police
who indicated further action may result. One gentleman was questioned and asked
to get dressed."

Don't worry, when London has ride the WNBR, you probably need a new harddisk.
Here some facts and figures about 3 rides last year in my collection to show how many we still have to get:

London 2011: 1.75GB, >1000 pics
Brighton 2011: 0.97GB, >730 pics
Chicago 2011: 75MB, 260 pics

The main season is June, with events mainly in the UK and some massive rides (but often at night) in the USA.

The event has reached a sort of plateau as far as numbers are concerned. I have been looking at the various Facebook sites and numbers are a little down on last year at this stage, but in the UK at least, we have another 4 new rides proposed.

I think the turn-out for the ride depends as much on the weather as anything! We have been lucky at Brighton in recent years and I am sure a 'heatwave' weekend will increase numbers and a washout one will shrink the numbers by 50%! So it really is a matter of luck......here's hoping 2011 will be a scorcher!

The behavior some of the snappers (not OCC members, I hope) is causing some organisers to re-schedule the starts on some rides, as they tend to put some riders off, before the ride starts. I can see more riders stripping off only at the last minute this year, which will reduce the photo ops, but if you take the plunge and join the ride, you will have a great time and the ladies will usually be happy to pose for a fellow nude rider!
