Well it seems I've been on hiatus for about a year. Soon however this forum will be burning the midnight oil waiting for those photos of the Solstice Parade to hit the forum. I figured I start this a preliminary post. We did a similar thing last year. Posted pics of the previous year. This way we also can get a feel of how many we have going to snap a few photos. I'll be there this year, I'm assuming baring a parking or a wrong turn again Klondike won't miss it. So in a little over two weeks we are back and running.
Here are my two favorites I shot from last year. and while public on my Flickr account they were some of the most popular there too. |

Wow, I did not realise that you took those shots, the bottom is my favourite shot of the entire ride. I am looking forward to this year too, something to keep things going after all the WNBR shots have come in!

yes, those were certainly two of the most memorable pics from 2008. Glad to hear you will be returning, Bjcojak!
after briefly revisiting the 2008 Fremont thread, I decided to post these couple of pics as I'm not sure they ever made it in. They were not taken by me. I will be there and hope to have a better experience than last year. I know that Gaswork Park will be well covered by other photogs, so I might locate a little further up the road this year. Anyway, I want to impress on people how fast all of this unfolds every year, and how in my view many photogs sacrifice a lot of personal enjoyment for the sake of obtaining pics. I would really rather not have my head buried in that little view screen the whole time I am there. To not actually see your subjects in the flesh is kind of the price you pay for what you do. I love looking over the pics afterwords, posting them, etc. That's what keeps it fun for me and why i won't be retiring anytime soon. But I just wish I could find a way to enjoy the event itself more rather than stressing out over my shots. So.....but not to sound negative or anything. To be honest, I can't wait to get back up to Fremont, and every year I'm like a little kid on Christmas eve the night before the parade - can't wait to see what Santa drops in my lap THIS time around! I agree with Klondike, I've attended this parade a few years now, and just watching the sights go by, the Cyclists and the Parade itself is worth going to just watch.
I'm attending this year with a new camera, My intended area of coverage is the last part of the parade, and Post parade area. So hopefully I'll have similar shots to last year. Soon it will be Christmas day! |
