I don't understand how having sex on stage, while a metal band plays and sings "go forth and fuck . . . motherfucker", translates into "standing for" anything other than teen pregnancy and population growth, or maybe . . . maybe something to do with removing the taboo of nudity and sexuality.

Naaa, it's probably just about selling porn.

I kind of had the same feeling about Earth Friend Jenn and her "peace" message, always delivered in the nude. She actually went to Coccozella's to promote her naked appearances, something no legitimate peace activist would ever do. I pointed that out to the folks there, and they got pissed at me for calling her an exhibitionist rather than a naked activist.

Sorry, but its the truth..

Couldn't someone be both a deeply committed activist, and also an exhibitionist? Most people are not just one thing, someone could have a political belief, and a sexual preference. I know I do. Any if one found that one had a strong political belief, and also liked attention for being nude, would it not make logical sense to combine them? I don't think that makes their activism less sincere, it is just activism that is shaped by the rest of their nature.

I made the point at Cocco's that if Jenn expressed her activism in ways other than by getting naked, then that would "legitimize" her commitment in my eyes. I mean, if you are truly commited to peace, you don't ALWAYS have to get naked to show it....?

Perhaps she does express her activism in other ways, and nobody pays attention? I have no idea in her case, but if she was writing letters to the editor, and politicians, lobbying people she knows to get involved, joining in public discussions, etc, then presumably that would make her activism more fully expressed. But I would not care, I tune out crazy hippy activists, unless they are female, and naked.
