Did they use a real ape and not a man/woman in an ape suit? That is always a risk.

I heard a stripper had an act involving a huge real snake. Some jerk in the audience threw an ice cube at the snake and the snake tighened its grip on the stripper. The manager of the club jumped on stage with a knife and cut the snake's head off. This happened at the Sextuple strip club in Montreal several years ago.

No, they used a gigantic mechanical ape hand.
According to an interview with her; She was scratched, bruised, and at one point, the hand almost tore one of her breasts off.
When I was a kid, someone brought a boa constrictor into school, to show the class (yeah, it was a long time ago).
Everyone took turns draping the snake around their shoulders (like I said, it was a long time ago).
Well, the snake, being a constrictor, started to constrict around the neck of one of the girls.
It took three people to pull that thing off of her, and she probably still has nightmares about it.

If true, it would be similar to JAWS where they used a giant mechanical shark. The "shark" in JAWS could only turn in one direction.
