Speaking of church, it reminds me of something from when I used to attend regularly. Every Sunday morning for the main service, everyone would dress up more formally, so the mature women would naturally wear skirts.

Updating my own post here, we did see our male friend this weekend again. Barely, but he ended up coming over with his girlfriend who we had only met once or twice; we still don't understand how they are attracted to each other, but to each their own.
