Now that is a funny story. Regardless, if he was trying to get a good look or if he really needed the time, either way, the irony is very humorous.

I think because it was such blatant gawking by an old lecher. Gawkers can be very annoying on beaches. They sit nearby (often fully dressed) and stare.
