Split Files

i know this has been discussed here before and i'm not trying to stir turds but why can't we post split files? i've moved on to other forums because they allow split files and it is much easier for me to prepare materials for upload . . . . i like it here better but time is scarce. any feedback would be appreciated.

You are talking about .RAR files, correct?

Our stock reply since we opened was that we didn't want to provide support for people trying to un-RAR files or deal with missing files in a series of multi-part .RAR files. Also, we didn't want people to use .RAR files to get around the old upload limits that we no longer have.

This topic keeps coming up, so it must be worth looking at the idea again. Our members are a smart and supportive group. I'm sure everyone could help each other out if we still ran into support problems with .RAR files.

Perhaps we can try testing this out in the video forums in January. Let me get some feedback from the other moderators first.

I took a bit longer than I expected, but we will start allowing .RAR files within the next couple of days.

Okay. We're testing this out now.

Members can upload .RAR files up to 100 MB each in the video forums.

The upload limit for .RAR files in the photo forums is set at 32 MB.

is that 100mb for each rar
and 32 mb for each rar

or is it for the total rar achieve

That the limit for each individual file that you upload with the "Manage Attachments" button, not the total archive size for multi-part archives.

You can upload as many 100 MB files as you like in the video forums.
You can upload as many 32 MB files as you like in the photo forums.

What about the speed? I have a slow download 50-60/kb. I`l use to have 300-400/kb.
I`m on 10/100 line.

Download speeds haven't slowed down for me. If anything, they improved last week.

However, I know factors like time of day (if the forums are very busy) and your geographic location will play a factor in download speeds.
