Default very basic questions about using free image hosting sites

I'm new to this board, and have two very basic questions:

1) I see that pretty much everyone posts their images as attachments (possibly with a zipfile attached), rather than as a link to an image hosting website such as imagevenue. Is that because the use of such hosting websites is frowned upon? I didn't see anything against using them in the rules, but figure it'd be better to find out ahead of time.

2) The reason for the first question is that I wanted to post some HQ images that are bigger than the max size allowed for attachments (each pic is around 1 to 1.5 MB). I could reduce them and go the attachment route, but I figure people might enjoy the HQ images. So I tried to upload them to imagevenue and post the thumbnail/link, which looks something like

....url to main image...

But I couldn't get the thumbnails to display. Assuming that there are no objections to posting images like this, what should I be doing?

Thanks a lot,
Curmudgeon

P.S.: when I try to indent the line that says "...url to main image" etc., using the little formatting button for indenting above the message composition window (right above "Guided Mode/Enhanced Mode"), I get a "ERROR! Page Not Found." FYI.

i have no clue how to avoid this problem, i just wanted to vote for the high-res pics. If you can't post them directly, i'd take a zip. Maybe you just make thumbs of the pics (with irfanview for example) and then post the zip?

Welcome Curmudgeon, because we don't want to run the risk of having any broken or dead link's in the main forum's we'd prefer you upload your images directly through the attachment option.

If your file sizes are over and above the board's limit I'd recommend you do as franzibert suggested and zip your image's and create a contact thumbnail sheet using Infranview.

Hope this help's Curmudgeon.
