Default Does anyone else have this problem?

Every video in this forum that has a .wmv extension, I can't get to play. It links it improperly and Windows Media Player tries to play a piece of the URL called "attachment" instead of the actual file itself. Since I don't know where exactly the files are stored, I can't punch their address into media player manually, so I can't get them to play at all. Anyone know how to fix this? Or can an admin just tell me what directory files are stored in so I can enter them manually?

try right clicking then use the save target as.. function. Then you can save the file wherever you want.
Then open the file normally.

DrBassman,

I'm sorry you are having problems. It sounds to me like it is a configuration problem with your Windows Media Player and/or your browser. It isn't possible to enter the URL manually for the photos or videos on the forums. This prevents unregistered users from accessing the files and also keeps other websites from hotlinking to our content. As I've mentioned before, make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player. If all else fails, you may need to follow massgeorge's tip and right-click to download the files you wish to view.

Good luck.

If anyone else has any advice for DrBassman, please post it here.

No, it's true. Every single attachment here, whether it's mpg, jpg, or wmv comes up as 'attachment.php'. None of the original filenames are shown in download file requesters. It's a pain, but you can input your own filename with the proper extention, and it will save. I don't think I'm the first to mention this. I think it's a problem with the board.

Okay, lets try to figure out what isn't working for you guys.

What operating system and what version of Windows Media Player are you using?

Exclamation Downloading problems

I have no problem downloading when using Right-click and Save as. However I can not use any download manager because it seems they can't "translate" the link probably and therefore only sees "attachment.php" which leads you know where.

Just a something worth checking in trying to solve your problem.

Default Linking problem

Actually once I tried clicking Save Link Target As, and saving it, that worked. I had assumed that it wouldn't because clicking Copy Link Location and pasting it into media player doesn't work, but for some reason saving works while copying doesn't. Problem is, I really don't want to fill up my hard drive with this stuff. I'm using Windows XP and Windows Media Player version 9. Is there any way this can be fixed so simply clicking the link for .wmv files will make them play? It works for avis and mpgs, I don't understand why it won't work for wmvs.

We are working on a solution to this. It's not as simple as I hoped. I'll post here when it's solved. Until then you will need to use the "Right-Click", "Save As" method for viewing .WMV files.

Thanks.
