make sure windows is up-to-date. some malware will go into your hidden files so make sure those are shown and then run your spyware and virus stuff again. some stuff can also hide in system restore, so if you're feeling brave turn it off as well but make sure you turn it back on after you've run your spyware stuff. i have had the same problem in the past and this worked for me. hope it helps you.

okay then, do the other things first and then try to update again. once you're up and running i'd suggest turning on automatic updates. i hope all this works for you. i'm certainly no expert- these are things i learned by trial and error and a whole bunch of crashes over the last couple years. if you need more specific help i'd suggest you try majorgeeks.com. they have a good trouble-shooting forum, techies who will help you by e-mail, and it's all free. they've saved my ass many times. good luck and let me know how it goes.

You could try using a different browser from now on, like Mozilla Firefox. I've been using it for a while now and rarely ever get pop-ups.

Trying running Spybot and the rest while in safe mode. Post up your HijackThis Log and see if anyone recognizes anything.

It sounds like you are a newbie ........... I know I'm too late but DON"T PANIC

You just have a horrible pesky "adware" thing that is now deep inside your computer.

You will never get rid of it .... unless you erase everything you have ever done and have on all hard drives,.

But you can Isolate it

Don't Panic

Do not start deleting anything. Especially do not delete or change your Regisry
Leave your computer alone.
Go away and take some deep breaths.
Yes , your computer is not really yours anymore

Use first anti viurs
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1
then anti spy
..lavasofft adaware

then anti adverts .....then spybots

just be careful !

oh an enjoy ...lol

if you found this site and got this far then you know what you should do.

I know it can be scary but calmly you will beat it

(old I know but for newbies ... maybe some help)

Microsoft has a good downloadable thingie as does "shield up" Google

finally when you are spam free , go and get Firefox as a browser... much much safer

hope your fine soon,

,,mark

man i cant read all these posts cause i'm pretty drunk right now, but listen to me. this is what i do for a living and i'm damn good at it. hijackthis, awsome utility if you know a moderate amount about windows. cwshredder, you dont need to know anything, just run it. adaware and spybot do good and are free. M$ antispyware is starting to impress me and i use it on a regular basis now. start->run->msconfig and go to startup and shut off crap thats not needed at startup, but you do need to know a little about windows for this. you can use add/remove programs and take out some of the spyware this way if you know what to look for. norton utilities is always good to run as well, but not a spyware program. this is what i usually run an it tends to fix most spyware issues, unless i forgot something since i'm a little tipsy but i think i covered most of it. the stuff i said you need to know a little about you can usually post on a forum an they can tell you what to turn off (ie. http://hijackthis.de ). hope this helps...
