Hi lcruizer. Aren't .rar files actually files that have been compressed by winrar? I don't believe there are any media players that play compressed .rar files. You'd first have to uncompress them (and join them if they'd been split) which would revert the files into the original media format (.wmv, .avi, rm etc...).

Same thing re: converting the file. To convert a .rar file, you'd first have to uncompress it and recombine it.

Yep, this is all right. A rar file is just like a zip file. the only time it isnt is if someone has been playing around with the file extension.

I think you mean .RM files not .RAR files. Real Player only plays .rm files. If so, you need a video conversion progam to convert .rm files to mpeg, avi, wmv or qt. I don't know of any free programs but there are a few trial versions out there. I saw one avaliable on yahoo searching under free rm converter.
If you are trying to view what is in a .rar file you need a program called winrar.

Default about RM

rar files are just like winzip, and cannot be converted. You need all parts to open the file, and then removed the file from inside,
As for RM, there is a few converters that can convert RM into other formats, BUT it is ilegal to do so. Thats why not many tools will convert them, HOWEVER, there is an alternative player that looks like windows media, that CAN play realmedia files, and you can set it as default.
you can download that for free HERE.

CP.

Default info

It is infact ilegal to convert real media into another format, thats why there is not many programs that available.
If you did a google seach, am sure you will find some more info about it.
As for quicktime format, i use a program called MPEG4 Direct maker, but it is not free. You could also try a google search for "converting quicktime"
hope this help's,
regards
