National Go Topless Protest Day 2011

Ashville, North Carolina, in America's Southern Bible Belt, was the scene of a topless demonstration Sunday, August 21, 2011.

Leaders were quoted as saying "That it's time to push back against a social stigma that makes women uncomfortable to go bare-chested while men can." You Go Girls

The protest and others like it across the United States were organized by GoTopless.org, a website based in Great Britain.

Local police say topless woman aren't breaking the law. They say North Carolina's indecent exposure law bans the exposure of private parts below the waist.

That's Asheville!! If that is the Bible Belt, Asheville is the missed belt loop. The place is filled with crystal gazers, mystics, herbalists, unrepentant liberals and unreconstructed hippies. And the mountains are beautiful. Biltmore House makes The Plaza look like a shanty.
