Faerieworlds
In a little over a week (July 27th-29th), Eugene, Oregon will host its second of two summer alternative themed fairs - Faerieworlds. Only eight years old now, Faerieworlds is hardly known to me at all, but maybe its time to have a look.I mean at first glance, I dismissed it as just another alt-kook type fair of which this area of the country is famous for. And yeah, like Oregon Country Fair, it will draw out lots of hippies, costume freaks and Rennaisance Fair types. Frankly, the thought of this kind of has me a bit nauseated. I dunno. For some reason, people dressed up in Faerie costumes kind of bring out my reactionary, conservative side. Even guys in drag don't affect me as much as guys in faerie costumes.
So for me to attend, its just going to be hard - hard to fit in. I kind of picture myself showing up and then immediately getting surrounded by little elfs and faeries all holding hands and chanting as they dance circles around me. They might even build a bonfire to toast me in.... So, but below is, true to the OCC spirit, and example of what might bring me to faerieworlds. These pics have been posted before, but I'll lead off this thread by posting them again. Here's the deal - this festival, on second look, has really got some things going for it, despite the Faerie theme. For one, those in the know consider it to be the worlds finest Faerie fair. And that means some really top notch artists and entertainers, some from Hollywood and including Grammy Award winning artists like Donovan. And for another thing, even OCF can't match the full nudity shown below. And thirdly, pics from the fair show it to be large and open unlike OCF which is all crowded along narrow paths that seemingly go on for miles. That means I can relax, sit in one place, and take it all in rather than bust my butt.. more to follow.. Klondike

..but like I said above, I just don't know how I am going to fit in here!!
I'm too poor to go out and buy an expensive costume. Besides, Robin Hood attire or kilts or mistral outfits just don't suit me at all. Now below on the left is a fuller picture of "me" than you will find looking at my avatar. Thats the original pic from where it came. So to go from that, which I kind of identify with, to something that would fit in at Faerieworlds, which I don't identify with ,what would you all suggest? Something cheap rather than a complete makeover? Just some butterfly wings, perhaps? Maybe if I go in looking like the chap in the photo on the right, I could blend in better and my camera wielding activity wouldn't attract as much attention? I need help, guys! Seriously, if I was ever sent back in time, I would never survive the Middle Ages. Or shakespearian England for that matter. In fact, the Klondikes of the world boarded the Mayflower just so as to get away from all of that 400 years ago, if I recall correctly. So some antipathy to Faerieworlds is in my blood.... but butterfly wing....? I'll work on it... Klondike

Anyway, on to more pics. But maybe its time to put Faeireworlds on the map. I will use this thread for any pics I take and any others I find from elsewhere.
From what I understand, there is the potential to see some truly world class body painting here. Better than Fremont. Better than anything else I have ever seen before. That would be a major reason for me to go. Don't let the pics below make you think otherwise - probably all types of paint jobs will be on display. First time poster here. Here's the first part of my Faerieworlds set. This was my first time at Faerieworlds and as much as I enjoy festivals and costuming the nudity and body painting was the big draw for me. So is there nudity and body painting? Yes. As much as at the OCF? No, not really. Worth the time and money? Yes, definitely, any body painting or exhibitionism is better than none ... the music was pretty good as well. I'll be heading back today to see Donovan and get more pictures.
