Question about 'Member' albums

I tried searching for an answer with no luck, maybe I just don't know how to search. I don't understand the 'Albums' feature on the member profile pages. Is the album something viewable by all, or a place to store photos, or what??? If I create an album do I have to follow the same rules as applies to threads? For instance, can I put pictures of motorcycles in an album I create on my profile page, etc.? I don't understand this feature. Can someone reference me to a description of it's proper use?

Yes:

These site-wide rules apply to posting in the forums, albums, social groups & visitor messages.

I don't think there's any official description of the albums. It's just another way to post pics.
