Quicktime to Mpeg

Does anyone know of any free software for converting quicktime files to mpeg? I've been trying and having no luck with a very buggy version of Easy Media Creator (I'm not saying it's a crack. I'm just saying it's buggy ) Thanks to anyone out there who has the time and the inclination to respond.

I use MPEG4 direct make, to convert quicktime to avi.
Its a great tool, and does most video formats apart from realplayer.
A friend gave me my copy so i dint know if its free online or not.
i did a quick search and found this link for you to try.
