Default Holy Crap!

Well, the new "thanks" button is certainly working. And people were right to say that it would just make it easier for people to say thanks and it has. I think I had about 15 thank yous in one thread not to mention the normal replies that we usually get. So, thanks to you lurkers for popping in and giving your props, I'm sure we all appreciate it.

Already this thank you feature is telling me a lot about lurker habits. It seems an awful lot of the non responders frequent the hardcore and amateur forums and cruise the big threads, carting away pics by the bucketload. Non responders may be less prevalent in the ENF forum which is a specialty that attracts an appreciative crowd.

I've seen rating systems over in other forums where the value of a poster is determined by the responses to his threads. Every poster has a number under his name that increases as his "value" increases. Another benefit of the thank you feature is that it works sort of like that, or at least can tell someone a little about the poster and how popular his submissions are.

I am really tempted now to bump a lot of my old threads and see what happens Mods be aware - a lot of bumping like that might go on in the next few weeks....

I like the "Thanks" button. I have tried to increase my responses to threads but I feel like a goof just popping in to post "Me Too!"

Thanks for the "Thanks" button.

We could always just put it to a vote, Klondike. You know, best poster in each section and best overall. But then, I think we'd really start taking away from what OCC is all about. I must say though, that I was recently called one of the best top three posters at OCC by a very senior member. *patting self profuciously on the back*

I must admit I wasn't too sure at first, but now that the 'thanks' button is up and running it is working well and in my opinion it is an improvement over the other reps systems I've seen.
I felt the same way about it but it seems to working out, like you said. And I can think of a few ways for Alex to show appreciation to the solid posters here. But hey, I post here because of people like Alex and yourself and Fango, if more happens to be done as far as showing appreciation that's great. I'd see it as a bonus.

I don't want to name names, but there's a forum, not too unlike this one....maybe I'll just use the initials. TT

Anyway, it's horrible over there. People diss threads all the time or they'll pick out one pic out of a whole thread and say, man, I sure liked you're thread but why did you have to put her in there? Then the mods made it to where you had to post to get access and they check every month to make sure people are posting. It's a joke.

And guess what product that has resulted in? Pictures being posted that have been around since the internet was invented, and reposts after reposts, and guys naming threads like "look at this new girl", and she's had a series around for 4 years that everyone who has ever looked at amateur porn pics on the net has seen.

I like the fact that OCC has stayed constant while, at the same time, it has grown into other areas. All I know is I sure hope you mods get paid these days because you deserve it.

Default my 2 cents worth

like the thanks button
get thanks from people who i never heard of
so some of them are at least getting known
if i see a bunch of thanks under a post i know people like what i'm posting
as far as appreciation for posting i care and i don't
just knowing some people like my posts is enuff
i don't expect anything for it
what people are suggesting sounds like it would turn into a competetion
i remember when i joined that so many posts got you access to the video forums
we had a lot of junk posts then
i think occ is just great
lack of responses is frustrating but i feel if you have to have your ego stroked to post
that is not right we have some great original posters like flashphoto
and great hunters like everlong, klondike, fango, showoffz, and rocketman to name just a few
just send a thanks to those and give a comment to those you think deserve it
i post because i like to share no other reason

Well, I agree with you basically. And its weird - last week I was going to start a thread, but I knew the pics were a little out of the mainstream, so to speak. Meaning, they weren't likely to get a lot of responses because the subject was just a little bizarre. And I thought twice about it because of the thanks feature whereas in the past, I wouldn't have. So it has crept into my thinking a little bit.

And then consider that there are like 40,000 more members here than there were a year ago. Thats 40,000 people who will lap up any repost and thank it profusely if it hasn't been posted in a year. So where do we stand?

I need to follow my own advice given in another thread - just do what you've always done and don't change your posting habits because your audience now has a thank you button. And as for rating systems - we often give scores like "10", "9" etc to babes. Now we'll see how it feels to be on the other end of that, to be receiving scores rather than giving them.

- For me personally, I couldn't care less about the button. Like a few others who have weighed in already, I post for the sharing and a sense of carrying my weight.

If a post of mine goes without a "reply" or "thanks", I'm not offended and not any less inclined to post again.

On the other hand, if a post of mine is highly responded to, I'm not one bit motivated to increase my posting habits.

I also have little patience for the whiners begging for recognition, or the blackmailers who threaten to withhold fills unless a certain level of appreciation is expressed.

I think it is important to stock the lake in which I fish, so I post.

It's obvious that some people are highly motivated by replies of both types, so I guess the button has an important place here now. And yes, if it's here, I'll use it. But no tears if it goes.
