thread management

hi,

i'm still pretty new here and still figuring out how things work. but one thing i have noticed is that it is very easy to bury recent threads by posting multiple new threads within a subforum (such as "sexy amateurs") so that, after a day or two, threads disappear into the second page and beyond. often those new threads that are burying recent ones only have a small number of pics.

wouldn't it be better for respected and prolific members to have their own thread where they post their finds in one place as opposed to new thread after new thread? many such members already practice this. does every single girl with a small number of pics need her own thread, especially when those pics are being contributed by a single member? it's not like one's thread count enhances one's status here. it becomes a fine line between contribution and clutter, imho.

i'm speaking not as some random noob but as a longtime moderator at a well-known forum. i think that encouraging some better thread management on the part of members here would make for a better surfing experience.

I've advocated doing this for threads on specific topics, but it hadn't occured to me to extend it to babe posting as well.

I think this is a good idea. Some day, I'd love to see these types of forums become so sophisticated that a member could design his own personalized "thread-space" - i.e. turn a thread into a mini website of sorts. That would encourage this type of posting where a member simply adds on to existing threads rather than starts new ones. I'd love for example to be able to go into Sal32's "life's a beach" thread and move around it as though I was on a website. I wonder what it would take to make available some basic hosting tools to each forum member - (I know - money)...but seriously - couldn't bulletin boards and webhosting be combined into one entity? Theoretically? I'd pay the premium for the package...

I like this idea too. And people who contribute here very much with pics please don't understand that we don't like your effort and the pics you bring over. But one or another time I would really like that instead of making a thread for each girl and having like 500 opened threads it could be considered if they put it all in one and name the topic after themself (is the thread starter allowed to change the topic name at any time? then he could even write what updates he has in the thread) or search for one where the pics could possibly fit in. That doesn't have to happen every time but once in a while it would be appropriate I guess.

From the beginning, we've always been relaxed about letting people choose their own posting style.

Some people love the "mega" threads, while others complain that they are harder to search.

I'm a bit weary about making any strict rules that dictate how individual member's should share their material.

Some day, I'd love to see these types of forums become so sophisticated that a member could design his own personalized "thread-space" - i.e. turn a thread into a mini website of sorts.

We are considering different enhancements for select members, for example perhaps a blog feature or letting member's create custom photo gallery pages that could integrate with the forums.

OCC is celebrating a birthday next month. Maybe that will inspire us to make even more improvements in the coming year.

If any of you that have posted here a lot in the past are interested in beta testing new features in the coming months, send me a private message.

Where this could lead to is kind of exciting to contemplate. Because then you are talking about turning OCC into really more of a true archive.

A lot of members like me post here rather than host sites because 1) we are hosting dummies and 2) we get lots more feedback here. But then we have to put up with the limitations of the standard thread design. Thats the drawback. So integrating the two would be the best of both worlds. I for one would probably then upload half of my collection here, organized by topic No, seriously - I hope to see more discussion about this and count me in for any beta testing.

i understand completely. i just found how quickly threads get buried in the "sexy amateurs" subforum a little frustrating when it would be just as easy for some prolific members to consolidate their posts a little. too much heavy-handedness can ruin a forum though, so i agree a more relaxed approach is best.

but one thing i don't understand is the "harder to search" argument. how are members "searching"? aren't they really just browsing through threads? in which case aren't they just complaining about how long a thread is and how full of contributions it is? what in the world is there to complain about that?!?! besides, it would be much harder to browse through the same number of pics spread out across numerous threads and pages. that's why i like the "mega" threads.

but, anyway, overall i really like it here and i'm glad to be contributing after lurking for awhile.

i agree. i will say there's arguments on both sides. some threads i revisit frequently because i know there's quality stuff i like. some users post multiple threads but i'll always look because i like what the user has posted.

then again, some users post a lot of threads and some threads get me more than others. and some long-running threads lose me and then i find out there's great stuff i've been missing.

i favor keeping it open and loose. and i favor promoting quality. but i think the "thank you" feature has done a lot to let people give feedback, and i can't imagine any thread-related change that doesn't take the "thank you" feature into account.

maybe just promoting threads based on thank-yous per post or something.
