Hi
I have a video clip of an ex gf and myself which I want to post...... but ( and don't ask me how or why ....cos I don't know ) I saved it in a folder on my HD and it shows in Media Player as "File"...not mpeg/avi etc How can I convert it to a format I can upload? I've tried uploading it but it shows as unsupported file type ...... I really want to contribute this vid to the group...anyone offer help to me? I've tried right clicking "save as ".....it only stays as "File". Any help appreciated. Mods..sorry if I shoild post this query elsewhere..I've looked and can't see anywhere I can raise the question other than here...apologies in advance if I've done the wrong thing. TIA mike |

How about changing the file type extension, or adding .mpg to the end of the file name?

...what exactly do you mean by "it shows in Media Player as "File"..."? Could it be that is is simply missing the correct extension, such as .avi, .wmv or whatever?
Is it displayed as a video file on your HD correctly? If the file type is associated with Media Player it should have an icon similar to other vids you have stored. If it shows a sort of an Windows icon it is missing the correct extension (which may have happened when you stored it). Try adding the corect file extension and see if that works... Greets, A Lurker

Open "My Computer" Click "Tools" On tool bar then click "Folder Options" In Folder Options window click "View" You will see an option called " Hide extensions for known file type" UN-check it. (So you can always know what type of the file is) Then the final step, click "OK". DONE Now, look at your "File", it will have file extensoion. ![]() If that still doesn't work for you, you can try using AVIcodec to check the video file type. http://avicodec.duby.info/ ![]() |

I think the easiest way is to highlight a file, right click and when the menu opens chose "open with...". A box with applicable programs will open. Chose Media Player and check the little box that asks about using the program for files of that type. This works for all different types of file, word, excel, videos, pictures, etc.
