Default clicking on vids

Yesterday I downloaded a new K-Lite codec mega pack, which contains a lot of the codecs needed to view all of the vids. However, before the download if I double clicked the title of a video in a thread, the WMP screen came up and after a few seconds of "buffering" the vid began to play. Now if I click the title I get a screen that asks if I want to save or run the file. If I click "run" it seems to take a while to get downloaded and then actually run. Was it coincidental that this changed after I downloaded the codec pack or did I accidentally change something? If one of you experts knows how to change back to the previous method I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Gawker8

We haven't made any changes in the past week. I'm guessing that this is related to your codec update. It sounds like it has changed your browser or media player settings. You might look at your media player and make sure it is still set as the default player for the video types you are viewing here.

Default Help

“if I double clicked the title of a video in a thread, the WMP screen came up and after a few seconds of "buffering" the vid began to play. Now if I click the title I get a screen that asks if I want to save or run the file.”

I am having the exact same problem. But, I downloaded BS player not a codec pack.

Anyone, Know how to fix it or set it back to normal? I have deleted the BS, went back to WMP 10, re installed IE7 and even tried to go back to a restore point. (I’m bad about making restore points)

Anyways, It has to be something simple. Maybe turn on or off some security function?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Krimper

Try opening Windows Media Player. Then go to "Tools" -> "Options" -> "File Types" and make sure the boxes are checked for the teypes of videos (extensions) that you want Windows Media Player to play.

Good luck.

Same trouble here as well. I used to be able to play the video right away. Now it asks me if I want to save or run.

Default video downlaod

The comments are correct, something has been changed on the site that makes you download the vids rather than play them instantly. Please could the powers have a look at this problem and put it back the way it used to be.

Thanks for the input Alex

But, still the same. I even downloaded Firefox, try different addons, and get the same thing. a window that ask if I want to open or save then it D/ls the whole file before it starts to play.

Anyone with any ideas are welcome to jump in.

Thanks

Okay. I think I see what the problem is.

We should get it fixed again so .WMV, .ASF and .ASX files can be viewed without downloading the entire file first. I believe the other types of videos all requred downloading the full video before playback can begin.

Thanks,
