I agree but then again fiction should make at least some sense and be believable. It is very hard to believe that an adult person who is not mentally disabled would agree with that such bet proposal straight away. Even the threat of violence from the bully towards rich woman would be better than nothing. It would still be very improbable but at least not impossible situation. Blackmail, for example evidence of adultery of a trophy wife who will lose everything in the case of divorce, would be even better.
