Default Vintage SAS Airline photo

Ran across this vintage photo from SAS Airlines. I'm pretty sure that the SAS photo was part of a publicity strategy, although I doubt that the sexy uniform was seriously considered. It reminded me of the time, late 60's, when start-up airlines were swimming against the current. The big legacy airlines had virtually all of the gate access at major airports. Using a new upstart like PSA in California usually meant a long walk across the tarmac, sometimes in rainy weather. The airplanes were usually older prop planes. To entice the male business flyer, PSA (and others) hired hot young women as attendants. Their uniforms were ultra short, guaranteeing that the under garments would show. At the time, the miniskirt was very new and controversial. PSA got a lot of publicity and captured big chunks of the business flyer traffic. Pretty soon, other airlines got on the fashion bandwagon, especially the international airlines.
