About that greyness you were talking about - if you have access to Photoshop or a similar photo retouching package (there are plenty of open source alternatives) you simply need to run Auto Levels on the images to clean them up significantly. I'm not sure how mcubed did the last batch but judging by the results I got with auto levels I would say it was a similar process.
You can run this process on batches of images and even reduce the file size in the process in order to speed up your uploads when you have a poor connection. I know what the broadband connections can be like in Spain so I'm sure that would help sometimes. It is easy, by the way, to reduce file size without any significant loss of quality to the image.
