Actually, the "nude male swimming trope" was based on testimony from two of my co-workers (who both attended high school during the 50s and 60s) that the males swam nude because of some rigamarole about "fibers from the suits clogging the water filter", or some such nonsense...(the girls, on the other hand, got to wear their swimsuits...figure that!!)
