Ironically enough, my OS WD HD failed last weekend but total death click failure...if you hear your hard drive clicking and it is still on and working, backup anything you can as fast as you can because one or maybe two more boots later and your drive is with the gods. Freezing can work but didn't for me and since I don't have a clean room and the same make/model hard drive to replace the components it is ddddead. sucker was less than 6 years old...wish they made hard drives like they used to make telephones...
