At first Joe, a local plumber, was upset at all the "Joe the Plumber" rhetoric in politics. He considered it an affront to his noble profession and his deep commitment to quality.

Then the phone calls started coming in. A whole group of well-to-do suburban ladies figured out that it would be fun to have a little side action with "Joe the Plumber."

At first, he tried to explain that he's not THE "Joe the Plumber." Then the first customer stepped into her shower and dropped her robe, and Joe decided, "I'm Joe the Plumber!"
