I usually follow the rule that pics that look alike should be filed together. When or who is less important. What or where is important with event and naturist pics for me. But otherwise, the bottom line is appearances. I don't worry too much about dups because if you subdivide pics finely enough, you will discover enough of them to keep things managable. Deal with overlap by establishing some sort of priority i.e. what type of pics is it most important to keep together (so, in otherwords, you don't file redhead naked mile runners with your other redhead babes, because naked mile pics have priority, i.e keeping them together is more important than keeping all your redheads together, etc).
If I didn't do all this organizing, it would destroy collecting for me. There would simply be little point, like going to a library where all the books are just in a pile on the floor..
