But what defines a woman to be married? What I mean with that question is that wedding bands are used in different manners in different countries.
In the US, Canada and UK, it is customary to give a woman a diamond ring for the engagement and then a wedding band, both of which are then worn on the ring finger of the left hand.
In most of Europe and Eastern Europe, wedding bands are engagement rings, which are worn on the ring finger on the left side, but during a wedding ceremony are taken over to the ring finger on th3e right side.
In Jewish tradition and Israel, however, wedding bands are worn on the middle finger. At the same time, I have seen more and more women, who are divorced to wear their wedding band on the middle finger, as in the first two pictures. Go figure.
