The photo was originally published in the book "White Shadows in the South Seas" in the 1920s. It was later republished about 10 years ago in National Geographic Magazine. I think that the Marquesas are more civilized now than about 80 years ago when the photo was taken. This photo is also from the Marquesas, circa 1920.
