-- I wandered this too but remember its japan back in the 1980s women didn't have rights I'm pretty sure. Machiko being my most loved cartoon character, shes too nice to stop them completely and I didn't notice she was cross eyed... Tentako does get into trouble for it though every now and again but rarely.
