That's odd, I thought that Associated Football, or "Soccer", originated on the playing fields of the English Public schools. A clue is the name, and it's similarity to "Rugger", the posh name for Rugby.

The game of Football is not the same thing as Soccer, which is the game played in the World Cup. Football is just kicking a ball about. Soccer has specific rules.

Not that any Englishman should admit this, of course!
