Blame Giuliani. The "Cabaret Commission" cracked down hard on all this stuff years ago. For those who don't know Manhattan, due to Puritan laws, you actually need a special license in NYC if people dance at a place where alcohol is served. When Rudy was king, er, mayor, they actually started enforcing these things very aggressively. To the point where if someone started dancing in a random bar/restaurant, the staff would have to tell them to stop. For a while it totally stopped the original "take your top off, throw your bra on the bar, you get free shots all night" rule. I don't know what happened later.
Hogs n Heifers was the first place I saw that served dirt cheap PBR (in the trucker hat sense). And the bartender would turn off the deafening music and scream at the entering boys up from Wall Street to "take that fucking tie off or get the fuck out of my fucking bar".
And I had to throw away my goddamn shoes after that nite from all the beer on the floor and broken glass.
I went by months later and there were lines and shit. I don't do lines.
I got sentimental reasons for saying this stuff and no, I won't tell.
