Because my friends and our family members have kids in college already these days, I haven't been around anyone breastfeeding in quite a long time.
Until this past Sunday.
Was at a party for a nephew who is 18 or 19, I don't even know, and this friend/co-worker of my sister in law was there, and she was only 26yo with a 6mo old (we are all around 50, so the coworker was out of place being so much younger).
I was in the corner of a room because I needed a break from all the chaos, and she comes in and asks if she can nurse her baby. I say "of course," and I start to leave. She said "Oh, I am not kicking you out, here hold him while i get ready."
So, I held her baby while she took out both breasts. Small, barely a B cup, and very unusual shape...tubular, but stuck straight out instead of down, and her areola were tiny with super thick, long nipples. Never seen anything like that before.
She put her baby on one side while he played with the other nipple. She didn't cover anything, and I thought 'good for her, that is how it should be.'
She said, "This is the first time I have ever done this in front of anyone other than my husband. I made it almost 7 months without anyone else seeing me."
I said, "Ya, all of the women here had done it in front of all the guys here at one time or another over the years, no big deal."
Then she said, "Other than my husband and doctors, you are the only person to have ever seen my boobs, ever!"
Then another couple walked in to check out the room since it was like a library. The young mom's face, neck, and upper chest turned beat red. The other couple saw the baby playing with the unused nipple, and they turned around and left super fast.
When the baby was done and she changed him to the other side and he was done with that side, she handed him to me while she took a very long time to wipe off her nipples and put her breasts away. She said "I do this topless at home, so I didn't even bring a cover or anything."
She thanked me for helping hold the baby, and she walked out while I stayed in the room and remembered what it was like when all the women in my life were at the age that I saw them breastfeeding all the time regularly. It was very non-sexual back then, but seeing this woman after so many years and her telling me that I was only the second guy in her entire life to see her boobs gave me a few tingles!
