Here's an excerpt from the chronicling of my formative years in High School which I want to share here because it's directly related to the thread topic:
I also had the fortune of attending high school during an era where certain behaviors were routinely practiced that doubtless would not fly today. Specifically, girls who wore skirts to school in the mid-1980's were in constant peril of having classmates lift up their skirts and expose their underwear to whoever happened to be around to witness. In all fairness, it was girls doing this to each other as much as it was boys doing it to girls. Boys were pulling up skirts because they were interested in what was underneath, but it seemed girls were pulling up each others skirts and dresses out of sheer meanness or maybe as revenge for something that girl had done to her. I have to say that I never participated in this activity myself, but whenever I happened to be around to witness one of these instances, it made my day big time.
One memorable occasion occurred at a school dance. One of the girls at the dance was a tall, auburn curly haired girl named Brandi. I think she lived somewhere near my neighborhood. She was attired in a white sweater and a denim miniskirt, which were a fashion staple of the time. During the dance, she was dancing in a circle with several other girls. Suddenly one of the boys at the dance (I think he was on the football team, that was the class of males who typically had the temerity to do stuff like that) came up behind her and pulled her skirt up fully past her waist. Her pristine white Hanes were on display for everyone to see! (I know what the brand was because the skirt was up so high you could read the waistband.) They would remain exposed for several seconds because the fabric of the skirt was so stiff, she struggled to get it back down. Finally having accomplished this task, she spun around and gave an angry glare to the boy who had caused her embarrassment.
But the fun had just begun. Soon after, another boy pulled her skirt up and then held it up for a few seconds, while she struggled, doing a spin in a circle while she tried to break away. When she finally managed to once more restore her skirt to its proper place and restore her dignity, she angrily yelled at a friend standing nearby "Why didn't you help me!" She only had a respite of a few moments when the skirt was pulled up again, I think by one of the two guys who had done it originally. Brandi was getting angrier and angrier. She faced the group of boys and screamed "OKAY! CUT IT OUT!" She was having no more of it. Shortly later she found a friend, and the two of them left the cafeteria together. Brandi looked close to tears. Some time later she returned to the dance, but this time she was wearing a pair of jeans that she had apparently procured from her friend or from home. Show time was over, but it was great while it lasted.
But the absolute greatest skirt lift I ever witnessed happened during senior year. I was walking down the hall with a friend of mine named Debbie and chatting. We passed by a row of lockers. Standing in front of one locker, with her back to us, was a girl I didn't know. She was tall and blonde and gorgeous, and wearing an absolutely lovely blue dress. As we passed by, to my startlement and delight, Debbie reached down, grabbed the hem of her dress fully, and with a mighty yank pulled it all the way up in back past the waist. The girl was wearing cotton panties in a shade of the absolutely most delightful pale pink. That is a memory that has never left me, all these years later.
