My Mrs Robinson. We had a multi year on-off-on relationship, and we finally figured out we were great friends, but a lousy couple.
She decided that being a housewife wasn't her cup of tea, and went back to college. We met in community college, while I was heading down one career path, and she wasn't quite sure where she wanted to go with her education. She was married, and we started fooling around. As time went on, she got divorced, and her ex raised the kids. We both went on to the same university following similar education paths. BUT, we had already started to develop the primary problem with our relationship. We competed in EVERYTHING. We used to play racquetball, while in community college. She was really good at it. Neither of us wanted to lose. This went on to school grades, sex, golf, even driving. The one thing she beat me solid at, investments. Her employer paid for her education. She took out student loans, and did a fantastic job investing. She paid off her student loans, bought a Porsche, and bought a house. But, she was also a sexual dynamo that I truly didn't appreciate. At the beginning of our relationship, I was still living at home with my parents. We had one absolutely crazy sex weekend while my parents were gone. Mom saw the massive scratches on my back and said how did that happen. I'm sure she didn't believe me when I said I had an itch and scratched it on the brick wall
We had sex in the men's bathroom at a charity event, on the golf course, in the cars, it went on and on and on. BUT, the competition was a challenge that destroyed the relationship. We went to a golf weekend, I drove the Porsche, normal 5 hour drive, but I did it in 2:45. Long after we broke up the 2nd time, she called me to tell me she did it in 2:30. We stayed friends, I got into a horrible marriage, which she warned me against, as we remained friends. I was devastated years later when her daughter called me to tell me that she had suffered a massive brain aneurysm, and would be passing soon. She went way too young, and while she knew and approved of wife #2, she never got an opportunity to meet her.
