This story reminded me of a friend of mine, Marian Wilder, who's stories are published on Amazon, among other places. You can look her up. It was great until the ending, which I thought was a bit lame. With that improved - I thought maybe exploring the possibility that the events changed the main character's outlook and habits, giving you the opportunity for sequels - you could publish it in the same way. Just a thought...
