I use Picture Rescue 2 on my Mac and it works very well.

I do believe I have a couple of old hard drives that I took out of my sisters old computers before she took them down to the dump. But they are blank so nothing on the surface. But my brother in law was a ln absolute hound so I’m sure he would have some stuff on there that’s been deleted.
