This all happened just a few days ago. My wife and I were about to travel to spend the holidays with family, and the only thing left on her list was a white dress for New Year’s Eve. After an exhausting attempt at the mall, we ended up going to a crowded, no-frills clothing store near our building, hoping it would be quicker.
It wasn’t.
The store was packed, chaotic, and completely disorganized. While my wife went to grab a few dresses, I stayed near the checkout line to save us a spot. From there, I could see the fitting rooms at the back of the store — flimsy curtains, no separation, no lines, and people basically fighting for space.
She found a few options and managed to get into a fitting room. As she tried the dresses on, she sent me photos. The first one was a simple white dress, just above the knee. We both liked it. The second was strapless, a bit longer, and she wasn’t so sure about it. She even said she might not bother trying the last one she picked since she was already leaning toward the first.
I looked toward the fitting rooms, expecting her to come out soon, and realized the crowd had only gotten worse.
Then, out of nowhere, an older woman dragging her daughter by the arm pushed her way toward the fitting rooms, bumping into people and clearly not caring about anyone else. After getting frustrated because she couldn’t find an open cabin, she noticed that one of the curtains had a very small gap. You couldn’t really see inside, but it was enough to make it stand out.
She probably assumed the cabin was empty and that no one had checked it properly, so she walked up and suddenly pulled the curtain open.
But that cabin wasn’t empty. Inside the fitting room was my wife with her back turned to the store slightly bent over. The problem was that she wasn’t wearing the last dress she had tried on — or any of her clothes at all. She was only wearing underwear, and that immediately caught the attention of everyone nearby.
Before the shocked woman and her daughter could close the curtain again, my wife turned around toward the store and instantly realized what was happening. Since the last dress she tried was strapless, she wasn’t wearing a bra, and she instinctively tried to cover herself with her hands. Still, there was more than enough time for people around to notice.
Even though I was standing some distance away, I could clearly see everything.
The woman quickly pulled her daughter away and shut the curtain, while my wife just stood there completely frozen, staring out toward the store, clearly in shock. I could hear people laughing and pointing toward her fitting room. To make things worse, it felt like the curtain didn’t close properly afterward and ended up leaving an even bigger gap than before. I had the impression that a few guys nearby took advantage of that to peek — though I couldn’t be completely sure from where I was standing. It was probably just my pessimistic mind making the whole thing feel even worse.
