When we did work together we had another work friend named “Mike” who we hung out with. I had known Mike a long time before meeting Craig. Mike moved away though and we haven’t stayed in touch. My strategy is to bring him up. Not out of the ordinary for us at all. Reminisce about old times a bit. Then spring it on Craig that Mike one time suggested we exchange pics of our wives. Then I can gauge his reaction. Will be think it’s awful? If so I can abort mission. If he seems intrigued I can maybe say Mike and I did exchange photos and see how he reacts to that. Then maybe suggest we do the same.
Gonna invite him for beers again and see how it goes. Wish me luck.

Nice idea. Like you say, it's all about gauging the response, before you can move on. I've always made sure that plenty of beers have been had first, so I can always blame that if it isn't received well...
