I was happy for him
In a hotel breakfast room at holiday time. Middle-age couple walk in, hand-in-hand, they had slightly below average good looks. She had a normal/neutral expressions throughout breakfast you see at that time of the morning. But he had the biggest grin and seemed inordinately pleased. He seemd very pleased throughout breakfast.
I formed the impression that he got lucky that morning and was extremely pleased and grateful.
