I do not do this for a number of reasons including the fact I feel it is asking for trouble in today's climate with coed departments but I have never heard of it being an issue... I just play it safe I guess. Now this probie was probably in diapers when I came on the job. In all my years I have never seen a female firefighter do this.
Fast forward to today it was this probie's first shift. We got a call for a traffic collision. We all head out to the apparatus bay and start pulling on our turnout pants. Right there in front of everyone she kicks off her station boots, and without hesitation undoes her belt and drops her trousers. She stepped into her turnouts, pulled them up and headed to the rig. I glanced around at the other two guys on my crew and they both looked shocked. No one said anything. If she noticed the shocked looks she did not show it. We ran the call and came back to the station. She stripped out of her turnouts and got her pants and station boots back on while talking to us about the call.
It was low key, no one made a deal of it but it was still a thrill to see. She is kind of cute in a tomboyish way. Her panties were a conservative solid boy short cut panty that were fire engine red. I have to give her props... She wants to just be one of the guys and he kicked ass so far today on her first shift.

Hey brother. I'm a 12 year FF on a very old dept. in a midsized US city..I have great appreciation for this particular low key event!
Funny you tell this story, my company just recently got a female probie assigned out here. We don't have a lot of females on the dept and while I've worked several shifts (trades/details/overtimes) on companies w women, I'd never been assigned on the same shift with one.
She is turning out to be pretty decent so far! Definitely makes for a different vibe on the shift though...
