There are usually some kind of small shelves intended for glasses just next to doors to many saunas. I don't think the problem is possible damage, but fogging. The glasses are cold, there is higher humidity inside plus you are sweating and sweat from you face evaporates, so the glasses are continuously fogging up. You wipe them off and in a while they fog up again. Time to time you can see people wearing glasses in sauna, but usually after they wipe them off few times, they usually take them off.
I have heard the heat is bigger problem for contact lens, because they try up very quickly.
