Default A leapfrogging arms race?

Over the years, I've noticed an "arms race" between 9x and the streaming sites, particularly YT. A team of well-paid YT programmers will introduce some countermeasure (in the blob scripting I think) which then stops 9x downloads for a while ... until one or two 9x programmers eventually work out how to get round this.

YT have the programming skills advantage, but a wide range of browsers have to be able to read and decode the blob and the stream which is to the advantage of 9x.

If there is a stream, I particularly want, that 9x can't save, I will bookmark it to try again in a week or two. This often works.

Although downloadable programs like Jdownloader have an advantage over 9x, I'm uneasy about downloading and installing programs to do "dodgy" stuff.
