In my experience, it is commonplace for dutch and german wellness centers to have a restaurant that serves small bites, salads, entrees, beer and wine. Mixed drinks are less common but not unusual. Zuiver serves alcohol and while no one was sitting around getting drunk I did notice that as the day got later people of both genders were less inhibited. I don't mean to suggest that by sundown the place turned into a porn movie or a gynecological exam. Rather, people who earlier in the day would use a robe whenever they were not in water, steam, or sauna now seemed to be more comfortable standing around in the nude or walking from station to station with towel in hand instead of wrapped in it. Whether this was my imagination (possible, but my wife noticed it too), the alcohol, the comfort that comes with hours spent together in mostly undress, or some combination thereof it is hard to say. I just know that my experience at Zuiver started out as heavenly and somehow only got better. I am going back in October so I will happily report back on whether the place can live up to my first experience.

FWIW, the American couple we were traveling with went to Beemster and had equally great things to say about it. I just think that Zuiver and Deco both being in Amsterdam likely attract a consistently younger clientele, but that's just speculation on my part.
