All I want is the truth. Just give me some truth. - John Lennon
I was in NYC today. I took an hour to sit at "Strawberry Fields" and people watch. For those unfamiliar, Strawberry Fields is in Central Park, across from the Dakota building where John Lennon was murdered. Yoko and others placed an "Imagine" mosaic on the sidewalk. It's a place where people can gather to honor Lennon's memory. Most take pictures of themselves or others on or around the mosaic. A musician is usually present playing Lennon and Beatles music. It's a better place for fans to gather than morbidly lurking in front of the Dakota. Today, a darling little girl was there with her mother. The kid took out some colored chalk and started to draw kid stuff...not on, but around the mosaic. I was surprised at first, thinking it was disrespectful of the mother to let her kid "deface" the little shrine. Then I thought about John and Yoko. I may be wrong, but I "imagined" they would have enjoyed watching the kid express herself with "art." No one said anything. Most people were smiling, taking their pictures around her and moving on. It was a really mellow gathering of humans. Finally, the musician pointed out to the mother that her kid was kind of in the way of all the people hoping to take a picture of the mosaic. That was true. The mom and daughter left. I enjoyed the music and the people walking by, until the sun went behind the clouds and the day turned cold. Rain is coming tonight. The girl's chalk art will wash away.
