Although they are not smiling, nor posing as if for a sexy photoshoot - they don't seemed frightened, cowed, bruised, undernourished, unkempt or dirty as I would expect captured women might. Their pose and expression is similar to ethnographic and medical pictures I've seen. There are many tribal groups of people in the hills of Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam who have their own distinct languages and cultures eg the Hmong, Karen, Katchen in Burma/Myanmar. If the date and description in the original post are correct, then this might be part of an ethnographic study. The systematic female nudity being in the interests of science - of course.
Finding the original source of the pictures could give a more accurate answer than either of our speculations.
