I know that for a friend of mine, the only way she can orgasm is when she is on a trip and in a hotel. Probably for the reasons you have mentioned, let alone the idea that she is leaving her stress behind while on a trip.
My wife used to really get off on hotel sex...to the point that when trying for babies, we even did it while sharing a hotel room with her mother who was also in the room!! (I posted about this before--she really wanted those grandbabies!)
I am indifferent about it, but I do not disagree with what you said about your inhibitions going way, as well as a sense of adventure. I have friends who are normally very prudish but had sex while sharing a room with others..they said it was about the adventure, and then they went back to being prudes, lol.
