Someone mentioned in another thread, back in the late 90s/early 2000s it was common for surveys to make the rounds on social media. Little questionnaires of stupid questions. You’d fill it out and post it then your friends would do the same. A common theme of these was “have you ever” questions such as “smoked weed?”, “shoplifted?”, “skinny dipped” etc. this reminded me of a funny story.

So I started dating my wife in the mid 2000s. We were in our early 20s. We were open about our sexual past and she had told me she had been with four guys before me. One day we got on the subject of livejournal, which if you’re not aware was basically what it sounds like. You’d write whatever you want like a journal entry and share it with your friends. It was common for the surveys I mentioned above to make the rounds on there. My wife mentioned she had one but hadn’t updated it in years. I had one too and through looking at mutual acquaintances and their friends lists I found her old livejournal.

I was snooping but couldn’t help myself. There wasn’t anything of note. Only about two dozen entries. I found one such survey she had filled out though. There was 100 questions that started tame but then got to the “have you ever” questions. I’m paraphrasing but I recall something along the lines of the following:

Have you ever
Masturbated: yes
Had sex: yes
Orgasmed from sex: yes
What’s your “magic number”: 13

So I read this and got curious because she had sworn she had only been with four guys before me. I came across this late at night and got to worrying. Why had she lied? I knew she lost her virginity at 18 so like 13 guys in four or five years seemed like sort of a lot (to my young mind anyway, doesn’t seem like a big deal now). Jealousy started building. The next day I confronted her and said I had found it and saw her number was way more than she had said. I don’t recall exactly how it came out but it turned out she had just misunderstood the question thinking it was just asking her favorite or lucky number.

We had a laugh then she realized that all her friends had seen that years ago and must’ve thought she was more promiscuous than she was.
