The mainstream media and social media are full of implied nudity so unless they are a bit more risque, there is nothing new.
I also think that the quality of photography needs to be top notch on these shoots and that isn't alweays the case.
I speak as someone who loves the girl next door/everyday milf look so they naturally appeal to me but some of the shoots leave me cold.

I very much disagree that they are 'old hat'. There are two competing forces these days: 'body positivity' and 'the male gaze'. I think that a lot of girls see the benefits of showing off your body and not being ashamed of it, but many calendars refuse to post to strangers and dislike the idea of being ogled all over the world. Remember: these are universities. Students (the fun ones) tend to be either rowdy and randy but campus administrations are always overly sensitive.
Now that this season has almost come and gone, I think it's time to step up our game. We should actively promote the idea to various places in various ways. If people stop doing it, they'll forget these calendars ever even existed in a few years.
