I have always wondered this, too, about step- relationships. I do know that is many states it is actually illegal to have any type of relationship with a step-, even going so far as to say when they are no longer a step-. (Similar with former in-laws) You can Google in---t laws by state and see for yourself. Some states are pretty extreme in their restrictions--"She USED to be your mother in law/sister in law/step-sister prior to divorce? Still off limits!"

Anyhoo, the few step-relationships I know personally were all married before they became step-siblings. In other words, two people get married, their sets of parents get divorced and are older, but they know each other well through their adult kids' marriage, so they marry each other later on. So, the people I know are now step-siblings, but they didn't start out that way. I know two couples like this.

I have a friend with a step-daughter who is 20, she walks around the house naked to air-dry after taking a shower, a total free-bird. My friend sees her as his own actual daughter and isn't phased by it one bit.

Growing up with an actual sister, I would imagine having a step-sister would feel the same way, but maybe not. I know it's a fetish or kink thing that is extremely popular, but I personally don't understand it. Seems far too dangerous. But to each their own as long as they aren't hurting each other.
